Do you talk to Allah?
This week's article is inspired by the enlightening lecture by Sheikh Belal Assaad titled, "Talking to Allah". You can find the link to the full video at the bottom of the article.
When we go through hardships in life, Allah has reminded us in the Quran:
وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدْعُونِىٓ أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِى سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ
Your Lord has proclaimed, “Call upon Me, I will respond to you. Surely those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hell, fully humbled.”
There are two types of Dua.
First, the Dua of request (which we normally do when we ask Allah for things and requests).
Second, is worshiping Allah. As said by Sheikh Belal Assaad, "worship is supplication, supplication is worship". Everything we do in worship such as salah, fasting, zakath, helping another person, visiting a sick person, etc. are considered as Dua.
As reported in at-Tirmidhi, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said
"The supplication is the essence of worship"
On the matter of getting a response for your prayers, the Sheikh has said “not to expect something specific at a specific time, Allah knows and say Allah will give it to me exactly when I need it".
As reported in Sahih Muslim, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said
"The supplication of the servant is granted in case he does not supplicate for sin or for severing the ties of blood, or he does not become impatient."
Sheikh Belal Assaad makes valuable suggestions on how to make Dua:
In Sujood.
After prayers.
During the night prayers.
While doing a good deed.
Make Dua in any language.
By mentioning your past good deeds.
Sheikh Belal Assaad concludes his talk by mentioning five things you’d want the Angels to make Dua for you:
When you repent to Allah.
Checking in on the sick when they are in need of help (70,000 Angels make Dua for you).
While sitting briefly after prayer.
When you give charity.
You make Dua for your believing brothers and sisters around the world.
Please watch the following original video for the complete version.
Let’s take you there…
ECU Musalla

ECU Musalla (Joondalup)
At Edith Cowan University, a warm embrace of diversity and inclusivity is extended to its Muslim students through the two Musallas (prayer rooms) on their Joondalup and Mount Lawley campuses in WA. These dedicated spaces, designed for both brothers and sisters, are equipped with wudu areas and a kitchen, providing a convenient place to warm your lunch or prepare a comforting cup of tea or coffee.
During the holy month of Ramadan, the university's and local Muslim communities come together to share the spirit of sadaqah. Donations allow the Musallas to offer Iftar for students and others who attend.
Managed by the ECU Islamic Society, which is run by passionate ECU students. The volunteers often run Quran circles, providing an opportunity for students to engage in spiritual and educational activities. If you are eager to contribute or be a part of these initiatives, don't hesitate to reach out to the ECU Islamic Society.

The only ˹true˺ believers in Our revelation are those who—when it is recited to them—fall into prostration and glorify the praises of their Lord and are not too proud.
They abandon their beds, invoking their Lord with hope and fear, and donate from what We have provided for them.
No soul can imagine what delights are kept in store for them as a reward for what they used to do.
